Security researcher John Page has discovered the security vulnerability and found that any user with Internet Explorer installed on his system is vulnerable to the vulnerability, whether he is using the browser or has already opened it.

The exploit revolves around a file format that probably few people remember now. They are called MHT and are the special format that Microsoft used to save web pages in Internet Explorer. Nowadays, Web pages are saved as standard and appropriate HTML files, but browsers, like IE, still have the option to open them. This vulnerability affects Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2012 R2. Page reported the vulnerability last month.
